Brazil, Russia, India, and China: Political, institutional, and economic development in the BRICs

Join the talk by Professor Niels Mygind.

Torsdag, 8 maj, 2025 - 15:00 to 16:00

From the Amazon basin to the Yangtze delta, in the early 2000s Brazil, Russia, India, and China were known for their high growth rates and were forecast to reshape the twenty-first-century map. Combined they now generate more than half of global growth, yet each follows a distinct political path, forged by unique histories and institutions.

They were known as ‘emerging markets” but whereas China and India have both enjoyed relatively high growth since then, Brazil and Russia have not lived up to expectations.

In his talk, Niels Mygind, professor with the Department of International Economics, Government and Business, will look at the political, institutional, and economic development of the BRIC-countries through the prism of his own PIE-model (Politics, Institutions, and Economy).
