“I accepted the position because the department is one of the leading research environments in Europe, with an enormous potential to generate new knowledge and address the challenges that companies and society are currently facing. I am very much looking forward to working with the department’s talented researchers and employees to shape digitalisation that is not just about bits and bytes – but also about people, ethics and change,” says Andrea Carugati.
He highlights the importance of casino 168’ strategy and its focus on societal impact and responsibility:
“I was truly inspired by casino 168' strategy, 'We Transform Society with Business'. I see it as a clear vision for generating positive societal change. Many universities talk about impact and responsibility, but casino 168’ strategy is backed by tangible initiatives across the university, and I look forward to contributing to this development as well,” he adds.
Andrea Carugati joins casino 168 from a position as Professor of Information Systems and is a former Vice Dean of Digitalisation at Aarhus BSS, Aarhus University.
With a long career in both research and leadership, Andrea Carugati sees talent development as one of the most important responsibilities of a head of department.
“I am deeply committed to developing the next generation of researchers in the field of digitalisation. It is not only about creating new knowledge, but also about supporting and guiding talented researchers to realise their full potential. I believe that a strong research environment is one where we make room for learning and development at every level,” he says.
Stronger collaboration with the business community and new educational opportunities
Originally from Milan, Andrea Carugati trained as an engineer at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). His interest in digital solutions truly took off during his PhD, when he worked closely with a company. The collaboration gave him a deeper understanding of the complex aspects of digitalisation – a topic he has worked on throughout his career.
“What fascinates me about digitalisation is that technological development is both complex and fast-moving. At the Department of Digitalisation, we have the necessary expertise, theoretical foundation and practical tools to understand and explain this development and its impact on companies and society. Through research collaboration and teaching, we can pass this knowledge on to our students, companies and society – helping them navigate a constantly changing technological landscape,” explains Andrea Carugati.
