Research Initiatives at EGB

ARC (Asia Research Community)

Asia Research Community (ARC) is a specialized research initiative within EGB engaged in high-quality research and teaching in the field of Asian studies. The role of ARC is to foster Asia-related research, teaching, and outreach activities, to the benefit of EGB and our academic partners, as well as other stakeholders outside academia. The research undertaken at ARC is often multi-disciplinary and often based on a comparative perspective, but focuses mainly on issues of relevance for business and economic development.

ARC aims to identify and study the distinctive features of the economies in the four geographic priority areas China, South Asia, Japan/Northeast Asia and Southeast Asia. The purpose is to understand how these special features influence the development of Asian economies, business sectors, and societies and, directly or indirectly, Europe’s economic and social development. We put particular emphasis on issues related to government-business relations, internationalization, and cross-cultural management.

Global Strategic Responsiveness (GSR)

Global Strategic Responsiveness (GSR) is an EGB research initiative that wants to catalyze useful answers to the challenges of our time that require proper responses from multinational corporations as well as international policy makers thereby drawing on the core knowledge areas within the Department.

These research efforts try to understand the complex multi-factor contexts that form extreme events as a basis for building more responsive and resilient organizations with decision structures, updated information processes, and governance approaches that can deal effectively with theÌýchallenges.Ìý Ìý Ìý

China Horizons – Dealing with a Resurgent China (DWARC) Ìý
The EU Horizon project 'Dealing with a Resurgent China' recognises that the reemergence of China is changing the world, and that EU needs to develop a long-term approach based on research-based knowledge in order to engage strategically with an increasingly assertive China. The consortium brings together some of the best researchers across seven European countries to establish a world class independent knowledge base on China. The network aims to create connections between European knowledge nodes on China and to create an enduring collaborative network. The key subjects to be covered include society and culture, politics, economy, and foreign policy. The network will also support younger researchers, providing perspectives that can assist the corporate world, and the wider EU public.
